It’s Torture, But How Do I Love It!
Today saw the release oh Super Meat Boy(SMB) on XBLA! from TeamMeat, a Old school platformer that will have you eating your own face in despair and frustration, But you’ll love every minute of it!
Fast reactions and a WHOLE lot of luck is a must for this game this is defiantly not a game for the faint hearted, but persist with it and you will be took back to the good old days where games where about the game not... “OOOOO look this gun looks a real gun”. SOD that I don’t always want a game to take me to a situation that could really happen, I want a game that draws me in making me want to drop everything until I get past this one bit! and at the same time escape from the real world, SMB does just that!
Starting off really easy this game weens you into the game allowing you to get a grip of the game.......JUST YOU WAIT this romantic love affair will soon get out the Handcuffs, Whip and Gag but theres no safe word oh No! Your going to sit there play along and your going to like, OH boy and are you going to like it! Pushing you to your limits the later levels require pint point precision to just reach the end of the level let alone 100% complete the level. The amount of levels will also leave your jaw on the floor as theres a LOAD...150+ and more to come with the release of the new DLC call “teh internets” which will allow XBLA to take advantage of the user submitted maps that users create on the later release PC version.
If the games so hard why is it a good game? Well it’s a fresh change as this really does cater for the hardcore gamers not just by the gameplay but by the inside gaming treats it gives you. The game is basic an homage to past and present games within the first 10 minutes you see it Super Mario Brother inspiration not just by the initials but also by the esthetics and artwork, it also brings in characters from other well know indie games on the scene at the moment such as Tim from the game Braid and Commander video from the Bit Trip series.
So overall this is and instant classic and will be making a gaming pro out of you in no time at all. SPM is defiantly a “just one more level”. The only grip and this is a tiny one I personally feel that the “casual” will get fed up of the difficulty and drop the game before giving a chance, but thats it! and actually you know what sod them! If they don’t like it good more for us.
Overall this game gets a 9.8/10 from me the only downside as I said was the down to the difficulty.
Thanks Matt.
