Getting Started with the Web
A couple days ago a friend of mine started asking me about the wonderful world of HTML, CSS and SEO, Well to be honest I was thrilled finally someone who I can talk to about HTML and other geeky black arts!
She asked if I could point in the direct of any resources for her to learn more about it, but could I think of any off the top of my head?...No! I was racking my brain try to come up with websites, twitter profiles and tutorials to help her out and to get started.
This is where this post comes into play, I decided that I shall not fall short of this information again! So I have compiled a list information to get anyone started in the world of web, You never know it could also teach some old dogs some new tricks!
The first point of call I think to get the post rolling is getting to know HTML and CSS and recently I found a brilliant premium course from Net Tuts+. They have provided an in depth 30 day course to get you started and the best thing about it, it is free! Check it out here ( 30 Days to Learn HTML and CSS )
There are also many websites that offer other premium courses and webinars about HTML, CSS and SEO but these can be quite costly, this is where AppSumo comes in. Appsumo is basically Groupon for the Web industry, they have tons of deals on there and I could easily blow a full months wages on some of the content they have to offer. AppSumo have a wide range of items on offer this can be anything from analytic services, to web resources, and from time to time they have tons of top quality SEO Courses on there and this is not one to miss out on!
So thats courses out of the way what about keeping in the know for information, on new tutorials, free content, or the latest deals around the web?
This is where I find twitter comes in really useful, I don't often tweet but I am there hourly looking at tons of new content thats get pushed on to my timeline.
Here are just a few tweeters I following to make sure I get my fix of geeky goodness;
- @Smashingmag - Constantly providing tons of useful links for web designers and developers alike.
- @Sixrevisions - Again another tweeter who provided more links, I feel this is more geared to developers but still has tons of design related content.
- @TutorialZine - This account as you may have already guessed, provide links to tutorials that are posted up on the site, and yet to find a tutorial I am disapointed with.
All the mentioned accounts do have Blogs to accompany them, which I would check out! The only reason I've mentioned the twitter accounts over the blogs is I personally check twitter more often therefore get the information quicker. I do still read tons of blogs but not as often, and here are just a few I read;
I hoped this collections of links helps others out. if it has let me know! If you think I've missed anything out let me know.
But other then that, thanks for the read!
